Gaming consoles: The history of Nintendo, PS5 and Xbox

Gaming consoles have evolved drastically over the past few years, the main consoles used are the Xbox, PS5 and Nintendo. This article will be about the history of them.

Nintendo

The Nintendo Entertainment System was released in 1986 and was launched in Europe. Nintendo began selling the “Family Computer Disk Drive System” in Japan to expand the functions of the Famicom. In 1989, Nintendo released the Game boy which sold extremely well, eventually amassing sales of 118 million units. In 1995, Nintendo released the Virtual Boy in Japan. However, the console sold poorly. On June 23, 1996, the Nintendo 64 was released in Japan, selling 500,00 units on the day of release and on December 1, 1999, Nintendo released the 64D add-on peripheral to the Nintendo 64 In Japan. From there, Nintendo released the GameCube and Gameboy advance in 2001-2003 and from 2004 to 2011 The Nintendo DS and Wii controllers were released. The Nintendo DS was released on November 21, 2004, and received 3 million pre-orders. In 2005, Nintendo released the Nintendo Revolution, which is now known as the Wii. The Wii was first released in 2006 and was immensely popular. In 2011, 75 million units of the 3DS were sold. The Nintendo Switch was released in 2017. In 2019, the Nintendo switch lite was released. There were lots of games released for Nintendo, and Nintendo is well-known for its Mario games.

PlayStation

The PlayStation was released in 1994, the third of December. And this was the start of one of the most favourite consoles in the world. The PS had very impressive sales on the market and was mostly unbeaten. By 2005, PS was the first ever console to ship over 100 million units. Its successor, the PS2, which was released in 200, had sold about 155 million units at the end of 2012. The first handheld console in PS was the PlayStation Portable which sold 80 million units worldwide by November 2013. Sony released the PS5 in 2006 and it sold over 87.5 million units by March 2017. Sony’s Next console was the PS4 which was released in 2013. It was selling a million units a day, making it the fastest-selling console in the history of consoles. But, the next console, the PS5 which is well-known today and was released in 2020, sold 10 million units in the first 249 days of release, exceeding the PS4 and the PS5 is now the fastest-selling console to date. Much of the gaming community think the PS5 is the best console.

Xbox

Xbox was Microsoft’s answer to Sony producing the PlayStation. It is a well-known main competitor to the PlayStation to this day. Microsoft saw the PlayStation as a threat to the PC. The Xbox was released in 2001, putting it into direct competition with Sony’s PlayStation and Nintendo’s GameCube. Microsoft’s second console, the Xbox 360, was released in 2005 and sold 86 million units as of 2021. The third console by Microsoft was the Xbox one, which was released in 2013. It sold 51 million units. The next console was the new Xbox Series S and X. This is a great console, and it is a community favourite. It also is the most powerful system in the market.
